Bird Watching

Lake of the Woods has long been recognized as a paradise for bird watchers.  You will have a chance to see rare birds nesting, graceful pelicans and bald eagles gliding against the deep blue sky and blue herons guarding the shores.

Osprey, hummingbirds, turkey vultures, pileated woodpeckers, Canadian geese and many species of duck all vie for the birder's attention.   Over 120 species of birds have been noted in the area around Duck Bay Lodge.

A Photographer's Paradise

Bring your camera!  With it's majestic scenery and bountiful wildlife, Duck Bay Lodge is a photographer's paradise.  Explore the shorelines, viewing the lush forest, vivid native flowers and magnificent vistas created by nature.   As well, otters, beavers, muskrat, mink, moose, white-tailed deer and many other magnificent animals abound.

For a unique adventure, sight-seeing flights in a float-plane can be arranged.  Did we mention the incredible sunsets, and a sky full of more stars than you ever imagined?

Rock Paintings

Ancient pictographs grace the steep rock faces of a number of islands.   Duck Bay Lodge is located near many of them.

These mysterious remnants of early native culture are believed to be up to 1,000 years old.   Both the substance used to make the paint (berry juice, spruce gum, fish oils or tallow and certain minerals) and the subject matter of the drawings themselves, present mysteries to scientists.

Just Want to Relax?

The great outdoors is the perfect place to unwind.  Duck Bay Lodge offers swimming, canoeing and lawn games.  Our recreation hall has satellite television, a library and is full of ways to relax.

A groomed 3-mile hiking trail runs along shorelines and through the woods. The adventurous may like to blaze new trails.  Climb the ridges for impressive panoramic views.  Or penetrate the interior to discover remote lakes hidden in the  wilderness.
