the Woods has long been recognized as a paradise for bird
watchers. You will have a chance to see rare birds nesting,
graceful pelicans and bald eagles gliding against the deep
blue sky and blue herons guarding the shores.
Osprey,
hummingbirds, turkey vultures, pileated woodpeckers, Canadian
geese and many species of duck all vie for the birder's attention.
Over 120 species of birds have been noted in the area
around Duck Bay Lodge.

Rock
Paintings
Ancient
pictographs grace the steep rock faces of a number of islands.
Duck Bay Lodge is located near many of them.
These
mysterious remnants of early native culture are believed to
be up to 1,000 years old. Both the substance used
to make the paint (berry juice, spruce gum, fish oils or tallow
and certain minerals) and the subject matter of the drawings
themselves, present mysteries to scientists.
