In memory of Dan

Hi friends:
This isn’t one of the easier blogs to write; we’ve lost a member of the Duck Bay family. Dan Furyk passed away on Saturday, June 24th. He was 79 years old.
Dan came to us many years ago, we lost count, but know it is over 15 for sure. Over the years he guided countless guests, and mentored many of the guides we still have with us to this day. His patience and kind manner was amazing and he handled the toughest situations with skill and grace. And there were plenty of funny anecdotes too; just ask anyone. We know his wisdom wasn’t limited to just guiding with those guys either as there was lots of sage advise to the boys on how to conduct your affairs.
Cribbage to him was an art form as he could make points out of a seemingly disjointed set of cards, and he could tell you how many points you had before you laid your hand down. Dan also holds the record for chewing toothpicks to the nub, 26,597 probably being a pretty close number. You can identify him as the guy (on the right) with the toothpick in this photo.
Sadly, Dan’s health problems worsened in the early summer of 2016. Although he desperately wanted to be a part of Duck Bay, he had to stay close to a hospital should he need treatment. Arlene, his wife of 34 years passed in November, 2016.
At Dan’s request, no funeral will be held. Condolences to his family may be offered online at www.northridgefuneralhome.com .
We’re going to miss you Dan!
